Against a Sea of Troubles
A young Englishwoman is on her way to marry the governor of British Jamaica, when her ship stumbles upon a pirate with a reputation for bad fortune. The pirate inspires her to flee from her arranged marriage, and instead pursue a life of adventure on the sea with him. Together, they will wage war against constant storms as they search for a way to break the curse of bad luck and bad weather that haunts them.
The Stone Statute
A peasant boy signs a deal with a demonic figure known as a Grimgrin, trading a piece of his soul for a piece of hers, in order to break into high society. In doing so, he breaks away from the great social contract that keeps everything As It Should Be. Now he has to learn how to survive in an unjust society that has no place for him, but he doesn’t even know who he is now that he’s traded half of himself away. Perhaps he should listen to the nagging whispers in his head that tell him to burn it all to the ground…

JJD Thomas is a graduate of American University, where he received his MFA in Creative writing, and Duke University, where he studied philosophy. He writes fiction of all genres, with particular interest in the fantastic. He lives in Durham, North Carolina, where he works at the Montessori Community School.
